CoolSculpting is a fairly new, non-invasive procedure that targets stubborn fat that doesn’t seem to reduce regardless of how much you diet or exercise. The process actually freezes fat cells so that they can be processed out by your body and since fat cells cannot return once destroyed, if you keep your weight under control, you should be able to sustain your new, slimmer and more toned appearance.
How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting utilizes a procedure known as cryolipolysis. You may also have heard it referred to as ‘fat freezing’. As the name suggests, the process involves introducing extremely cold temperatures to the targeted areas of the body. In doing so, the fat cells are broken down and processed out through the body’s usual excretion methods. One of the biggest benefits of CoolSculpting is that the fat cells can be eliminated without there being any damage to other tissues in the surrounding area.
What happens during a CoolSculpting procedure?
The CoolSculpting process is painless and so no medical anesthesia is required. However, you will feel very, very cold in the target area while it is taking place and some patients find the initial part of the appointment uncomfortable. Nevertheless, the process is simple, straightforward and can be completed in less than a couple of hours.
During the procedure, a vacuum is applied to the skin which sucks it into the area that contains the CoolSculpting cooling panels. You will start to feel the skin growing colder until it becomes numb and you can’t feel anything at all. The fat is then cooled for up to an hour. During this time, you can watch television, read a book, listen to music or simply relax.
After the procedure is complete, you will be able to return to your usual day-to-day activities immediately. You may find that the area you have targeted by CoolSculpting feels a little sore or tender for a day or two afterward.
How many CoolSculpting sessions will I need and how quickly will I see the results of my procedure?
CoolSculpting typically requires patients to have several treatment sessions, but exactly how many you will need will depend on the degree of improvement needed to the target area. Your CoolSculpting provider will be able to give you an estimation based on the information you have provided.
Since the fat cells that have been destroyed by the CoolSculpting process are eliminated naturally by your body, the results will not be visible immediately. Instead, you will notice a gradual reduction in fat in the target area over the course of two to three months. The results from your CoolSculpting procedure will be more noticeable and far superior if you commit to eating healthily, exercising and drinking plenty of water in the weeks and months after the procedure.
